the enamelling process explained by the designer, Yvonne:Enamelling involves firing finely ground glass (vitreous enamel) onto a metal base at approximately 1500 degrees Fahrenheit.I fire my enamel pieces in a kiln and use copper as my base metal. All my enamels are lead free.I try to be as environmentally friendly as possible and use only vinegar and salt for cleaning metal, no harsh chemicals. The colours are built up in several layers, each fired individually. On multi-colour pieces I build up the layers then carefully over-fire them so that the layers underneath bubble upthrough the layers on top. Colours vary depending on how thick the layers are, how many layers, the heat of the kiln, how long pieces are fired, etc, so every piece is unique.
Ways to wear it: looks great over any top or dress with a high neckline, adds a dramtic flare and a great pop of colour. Each piece is one of a kind and really special. It's fun to examine the piece to see the different layers popping through.
